    Caught

    by Christopher Chen

    August 24 - September 23, 2023

Wee transformed HPT into a gallery for a show by a dissident Chinese conceptual artist, a man who was imprisoned and tortured for an art piece in which he organized an imaginary protest. Or . . . perhaps that's what we' did. The New York Times called Caught, by Christopher Chen, an "intricately constructed, unrelentingly destabilizing puzzle of a play." We thought it was dazzling, shocking, and unmissable. Directed by Ken Webster, the show featured Norman Tran, Rebecca Robinson, and Robert Pearson, and Mary Vo.

Chronicles of an Indigenous Offspring (reprised)

written and performed by Zell Miller, III

    October 12 - November 4, 2023

This show sold out so hard the previous spring that we brought it back so everyone could see it. A therapeutic exhale that documents growing up black in Austin, Texas. A love letter to cultural landmarks that have been erased from the city's consciousness, Chronicles also exposed the city's dark past. Photographer Ivan Miller's black-and-white images established a striking visual environment, and Miller's longtime musical collaborator Thomas the T-Man Wheeler on percussion created a funky sonic landscape. Together with Miller's masterful storytelling, they made a three-dimensional theatrical experience. Presented with ZM3ProductionsLive.
