FronteraFest 2015

Theatre from the Edge

"The fringe theater event of the Southwest!"
-Austin American Statesman

That's right: it's time to heat up your winter nights again, with the 22nd season of FronteraFest at Hyde Park Theatre. The Short Fringe, the Long Fringe, BYOV, or Mi Casa--as always and ever, FronteraFest is five weeks of alternative, offbeat, new, and just plain off-the-wall fringe theatre. Too bad there's no actual way to expect the unexpected, because that is your only hope.

FronteraFest is produced in collaboration with ScriptWorks, a group dedicated to supporting emerging playwrights and developing new dramatic works.

Calendar
Just want to cut to the chase? Here's a handy calendar of all FronteraFest events.

The Short Fringe
January 13 - February 14, 2015
at Hyde Park Theatre

Every night we present a new bill of four or five plays no longer than 25 minutes each. Brilliant monologues? Plays in progress? Comedy improv? Cabaret singers? Avant-garde dance? Short films? Multimedia? We've seen it all.

Every Saturday night is a juried "Best of the Week" performance, and the last week, February 12-16, is the juried "Best of the Fest"--with a few wild cards thrown in. A complete schedule, updated regularly, will be available here as the festival approaches.

And show descriptions and tickets are now available.

Every Saturday night is a juried "Best of the Week" performance, and the last week, February 10-14, is the juried "Best of the Fest"--with a few wild cards thrown in. The "Best of" shows sell out quickly, so get your tickets soon.

Don't miss our opening week after-party. NEW LOCATION: The doors open around 10:30pm on Saturday, January 17, at Dane's Body Shop, right next to Hyde Park Theatre. The party will be catered by Asti Trattoria, The Parlor, and Beverage World. We hope to see you there!

Mi Casa Es Su Teatro
Saturday, February 7, 2015

A day of site-based work performed in local homes and other surprising locales, Mi Casa is consistently one of the most popular components of our festival.

This year, Mi Casa is curated by by playwright and actor Elizabeth Doss and designer Lisa Laratta, both of the award-winning company Paper Chairs. All fourteen pieces are set in four walkable locations in the ultra-Austin Cherrywood neighborhood. Participating artists include Sarah Saltwick, Adam Sultan, Wylie Wiggins, Kelli Bland, and many more--and the theme is "Feedback." Intrigued? So are we; can't wait. Download a PDF with descriptions of each piece, including times and locations, plus a PDF map of locations. You can also find more info at the Facebook event.

Please note: there are no advance sales or reservations for Mi Casa. Tickets are $3 per performance (or $5 per location, if you wish to see multiple performances), payable in cash only at each venue. Don't miss the after party starting at the final location!
