It was a lovely opening weekend for St. Nicholas by the brilliant Irish playwright Conor McPherson--two encores Friday, what?--which has now been capped by a wonderful review in the Chronicle:

"Overflows with powerful imagery . . . riveting theatre. . . miraculous . . . leaves the audience pretty damn euphoric." - Austin Chronicle

If you caught FronteraFest this year, you heard Ken Webster mention this play about a drunken Irish theater critic who finds himself in the employ of vampires. (Why is it called St. Nicholas? We don't know, no one does, sometimes you have to let the mystery be.)

This is a revival of a production we first did in 2006, when Ken Webster was much too young for the role but nevertheless won the Austin Critics Table Award for Outstanding Lead Actor for Ken Webster, and raves like these:

Austin Chronicle: "Conor McPherson wrote one hell of a one-man show, and Ken Webster executes it beautifully. St. Nicholas is storytelling at its finest." And: "a veteran performer, a famous young playwright, and a good evening of theatre. . . . Webster is a joy to watch."

Austin American Statesman: "Webster is the ultimate storyteller . . . more enthralling than his vampires."

The Austinist: "A captivating escape . . . a deliciously odd one, too. We went into the evening with high expectations. We weren't disappointed. . . . top-rate storytelling."
