Hyde Park Theatre presents the Austin premiere of The Evidence of Silence Broken, written and performed by Zell Miller III.
Miller's poetic, eruptive, political, hip-hop performance piece is the story of a young African-American coming of age as an artist and as a man. Directed by Ken Webster, The Evidence of Silence Broken will open on Thursday, September 8 and run through Saturday, September 24 -- three weeks only.
Originally developed as part of the Hyde Park Theatre's HPT Play DRS development reading series for new plays, The Evidence of Silence Broken had its critically-acclaimed world premiere at the Pillsbury House Theatre in Minneapolis in 2003.
Zell Miller III is an interdisciplinary theater artist/educator. He was voted by the Austin Chronicle readers as the "Best of Austin Author/Poet of 2004." A member of the 2004 Austin Slam Team, Zell is also featured in the soon-to-be released feature documentary on slam poetry, Slam Planet: War of Words. The Evidence of Silence Broken will be included in an anthology on hip-hop theater by Theater Communication Group this fall.
The show runs at 8:00 PM on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, September 8-24. Every Thursday is Pay What You Can Night; Friday and Saturday tickets are $17 ($15 for students, seniors, and ACOT members) Hyde Park Theatre is located at 511 W. 43rd Street. For reservations call 479-PLAY (7529).
